My collectionI intend to put my entire collection of live chazzanut up for download. Simcha put a good deal of it up before, and much of what I put up will be repetitive of that. The advantage of what I plan to do is that the entire collection will be available in one place. I have also arranged with another participant on this forum to digitize my cassette collection of live and rare cantorial recordings. As those are digitized, I will make them available as well. I'm doing this for two reasons. First of all, great chazzanut is the intellectual/spritual heritage of all Klal Yisrael and like Divrei Torah, should be available to anyone who desires to experience it. Secondly, I hope that by doing this, it will encourage others who have similar collections to do likewise. The following is the link to the files:

Thank you for this incredibly generous undertaking.
I have navigated to the link which you have posted above, but the page at mediafire tells me there are no files to download. Am I doing something wrong? Posted by kendal at 18/01/10 05:03:43
I just tried the link and it worked. If you wish, e-mail me off site and I'll send you the link that way. Perhaps that will work better for you.

Dear schwartzesq,
A particular thank you for including the rare recording of the beautiful voice/davening of master cantor Shlomo Mandel. Best Regards mancunian Posted by mancunian at 21/01/10 11:16:05
Yankeeo, about which recording are you asking? Mancunian, the Mandel Maariv is very important, considering that Mandel very rarely gave concerts. He much preferred the amud over the stage. That recording was a recent acquisition, from Moshe Libson's site, I believe.

I'm uploading my Zvee Aroni material tonight. Aroni was an amazing Chazzan, a real under appreciated gem. The live Sukkot is a classic.

Israel Bacon was born in a Hasidic family in 1910 in the town Hrzhanov 25 km from Cracow and 15 km from Auschwitz (Austro-Hungarian Empire, now Poland). His father, Hersh Leib Bacon was a hereditary offices, and even his name is an acronym for the phrase "Bnei Kadosh venitbahim / Sons of the saints and martyrs."
After gaining independence by Poland in its territory, a wave of pogroms against the Jews. To save the family Hirsch Leib Bacon first moved her to London and then to Berlin, where in 1919 he received the post of cantor of the synagogue on the street Grenadiers 37 (currently ul Almshtadt) in the area Sheynenfirtel where in eastern Europe have moved many of the Hasidim. Israel studied in the yeshiva of Rabbi Halberstama and assisted his father. However, the fall of 1923 the family returned Bacon back in Hrzhanov. The younger brother of Israel, Isaac, believed that his father had taken such a step, so that his children "were Jews," and not succumb to the temptations of Berlin. In Poland, Israel Bacon continued his studies of Jewish liturgy from his father, and then from other reputable specialists in Poland. In 1931, Israel Bacon left Poland. First, he spent some time in Kosice (Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia), then moved to Berlin, where he quickly became a popular performer of Jewish songs. Bacon gave concerts in Antwerp, London, Hamburg and other European cities. In 1935, Bacon met with Hirsch Levin, owner of record company «Semer / Song", whose shop was in Berlin on the street Grenadiers 28. It Levin in February 1936 produced the first record Yisrael Bakony. In 1939, Bacon was able to flee from Berlin to Poland, in the Galician shtetl Kolbuszowa. After the seizure of Poland Bacon, in 1941, was deported to the ghetto of the city Tarnow. In early 1943, Israel Bacon, his wife and their son were killed in a concentration camp Belzec (Poland). google translation from http://yiddishmusic.jewniverse.info/bakonisrael/index.html Posted by libsonmo at 31/01/10 07:35:30
