I was fortunate many years ago in Israel to have Solomon Khromchenko as my voice teacher for a year and a half. He was in his late seventies then. His voice was so clear and pure, it seemed so affortless the way he would sing. One of his favourite sayings was "Trachnit from d'luft'!

Mr. Musical, are you certain he was in his seventies? I believe he arrived in Israel in his mid-eighties. He looked robust and young for his age. Sadly, six years later, at age 92 or so, he returned to Russia where he passed away.

I am lead to believe he came to Israel in his mid-seventies, but quite possibly he may have been 80. I re-call that he lived with his cousin (Sarah?)on Palmach Street in Katamon/Rechavia. He would do physical exercise as if he was 30 years younger and his voice sounded like fine silk. His voice was so preserved, it was testement to his vocal technique.
